2027 Consultation
Proposed Change to Admissions Criteria for 2027
After careful consideration, we would like to propose that we remove the Area of First Priority from our admissions policy.
The AFP is a defined geographical zone that currently gives priority to applicants living within it when the school is oversubscribed (after statutory priorities such as looked-after children and siblings). While this system was intended to manage demand, it has created inequity: families living very close to the school but outside the AFP may lose priority to those farther away but inside the AFP.
This is part of our commitment to ensuring a fair and transparent admission processes. As required by the School Admissions Code, we are inviting your comments on the proposed changes.
Proposed Amendments to the admissions policy:
Current Area of First Priority:

The school is situated near the 'south boundary' when in permanent site and currently is situated outside the area of first priority.
New AFP - No AFP - simply distance from academy door
The current admissions criteria are as follows:
1. Looked after children and children who were previously looked after but immediately after being looked after became subject to adoption, a child arrangements order, or special guardianship order as well as children who appear (to Oasis Community Learning) to have been in state care outside of England and ceased to be in state care as a result of being adopted.
2. Siblings of students who will be members of Years 7 to 11 at the academy on the date when the applicant would be admitted. The term “sibling” means a full, step, half, adopted or fostered brother or sister, or another child living permanently within the same household. Oasis Community Learning reserves the right to ask for proof of relationship.
3. Children who live the nearest by direct line distance from the academy within the area of first priority. Children living on the boundary line will be considered living within the area of first priority. See the map in the notes section of this document.
4. Children who live the nearest by direct line distance from the academy outside the area of first priority.

4. Children who live the nearest by direct line distance from the academy, outside the boundary of Bristol.
Why are we proposing this change?
- Families living closer to the new site may fall outside the AFP, while those further away remain within it.
- Removing the AFP will ensure places are allocated based on proximity to the school, promoting fairness and clarity.
