Miss Birkin - Head of Design and Technology
Hello! I’m Miss Birkin, Head of Design and Technology. During my teaching career I have been lucky enough to teach Art as well as Design and Technology, and I can’t wait to do the same again in September.
I gained my degree from Brunel Design School (part of Brunel University in London) and whilst there had the opportunity to design and make many different things. This included coding a vending machine to dispense Poké Balls, designing posters to encourage travel to the North, and making a highchair in collaboration with Mothercare. Lots of things come under Design and Technology - it’s not just woodwork!
I love design, however it’s always been my goal to teach instead of designing products myself. Design education can make the world a better place, and it's such a joy to be able to inspire and empower the next generation of designers, engineers, and innovators.
Our new school is such a rare opportunity in the world of Design and Technology, as we get to start from scratch and plan a curriculum that gives you the best creative education possible from Day 1. It also includes the exciting journey of our new workshops, kitchens and creative spaces!
I’ve previously worked in schools that have had extended periods without workshops before, so do not worry I’ve got some tricks up my sleeve to ensure everyone gets the best opportunities possible.
Outside of school I’m a Scout Leader, and enjoy going on adventures with my (very fluffy) Golden Retriever puppy.
